Bilhi Genetics est un dérivé du laboratoire de recherches de l’INSERM du Prof. Alain Dessein, internationalement reconnu pour ses recherches en génétique. Ses travaux l’ont mené en Chine, au Soudan, au Mali et au Brésil où il a étudié les facteurs génétiques favorisant certaines maladies sur les 40 dernières années. Bilhi Genetics a été créé par une équipe d’experts aux profils complémentaires basés sur le savoir-faire et les découvertes du Pr. Dessein. L’équipe de Bilhi Genetics combine la génétique et les technologies numériques pour développer de puissants algorythmes pour prédire et empêcher des maladies graves et améliorer les soins médicaux.

Contexte

Identifying people at risk of developing liver cancer and cirrhosis in Africa, Asia and South America could save millions of lives of patients infected with schistosomiasis.

Schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, is a chronic disease caused by parasitic worms that live in certain types of fresh water snails. After Malaria, Schistosomiasis is the second most devastating parasitic disease in tropical countries. In sub-Saharan Africa, more than 200,000 deaths per year are caused by schistosomiasis. Depending on the species of the parasite, schistosomiasis causes liver and intestinal diseases.

Bilhi Genetics, in partnership with leading research institutes, foundations and NGOs is currently trying to organize wide screening programs in Africa and Asia to identify individuals with a high risk of developing liver fibrosis in order to treat them manually with existing anti-bilharzia treatment.

Role d’Ahimsa Partners

Counseling on the formulation / drafting of the Bilhi Genetics testing project to perform large-scale prevention of severe forms of fibrosis in patients with Bilharziasis, HBV and / or HCV,

Identification of the main Global Health Stakeholders engaged in the fibrosis diseases,

Advocacy with the main international stakeholders in order to position the project.
